Nights of Grief and Mystery
This recording draws on hi-def live recordings of tours in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK between 2015-and 2017 and synthesized into something else. Live concert captures, audio "B-Roll" segments, and studio recording combine to make this CD 72 minutes of impact.
Nights of Grief and Mystery is in many ways a companion piece to Jenkinson's award winning book, Die Wise. Most of the material chosen for the disc is not found in Die Wise, but drawn from that time of his working in the world of palliative care. The songs of Gregory Hoskins were not written specifically to be joined with Stephen's work, but chosen from his catalogue for whatever connective tissue they might contain to help bind a concert together. The choice to augment music from the live captures with recording in the studio had nothing to do with "fixing" anything and everything to do with "...doing things on drums and bass that were in my head anyway while I was on stage and implied in the parts I was looping or playing," Hoskins says. To keep it all glued together, Hoskins played all the instruments you hear. released October 29, 2017 |
